REFRIGERATION TIMELINE:

1748:       WILLIAM CULLEN first to observe and demonstrate, artificial refrigeration, by evaporative cooling at the University of Glasgow.
PROCCESS- Boiling diethyl ether in a partial vacuum, rapidly absorbed enough heat from its surroundings to produce a thin layer of ice.

1834:       JACOB PERKINS invented the first vapor compression system
PROCCESS- Using Ether, in a closed-loop, vapor-compression system, successfully created a cycle of evaporation and condensation that extracted heat.

1848:       JAMES HARRISON Started experimenting in a cave in Geelong Victoria.
PROCCESS- Using Sulphuric Ether as a REFRIGERANT and a compressor to push the Sulphuric Ether vapor into a condenser, then letting it evaporate through coils to cool the surrounding environment, it turned back into liquid, ready, for the cycle to be repeated.
His machines were the first large, commercially refrigeration units, worldwide, revolutionizing food preservation and the brewing industry. Soon he had 1857 machines, operating in breweries and paraffin works.

1870: Carl von Linde patented and built large compressors to process Sulphuric Ether gases used in Harrisons artificial refrigeration machine

1873:       JAMES HARRISON Intercolonial Exhibition>Melbourne Victoria.
James Harrison remarkable achievements were officially acknowledged, and was awarded a gold medal. Receiving recognition for proving that meat preserved and kept frozen for months using his mechanical refrigeration methods remained perfectly edible. His groundbreaking method of freezing meat, revolutionized food preservation , enabling reliable shipments to England at a market-competitive price, changed the way meat was traded internationally, transforming the meat export industry worldwide.

James Harrison was granted his first patent for an ether vapor-compression refrigeration system in 1855 in Victoria, Australia (Patent No. 25).
The principles of his patent are still foundational blueprint for all modern mechanical refrigeration, down to today..
